PRESIDENT FAURE MEETS WITH RETIREES

President Danny Faure personally thanked a group of retired public servants during a ceremony held at the State House on 19th October.

The 42 retirees worked mostly in the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development with others from several departments including social, economic, parastatal amongst others.

President Danny Faure thanked the workers for their years of service and said that the government acknowledged their devotion.

Most of the retirees had more than 30 years of service in their career.

ADDITIONAL PUBLIC BUSES DURING FESTIVAL KREOL

The Seychelles Public Transport Corporation has announced that there will be additional buses on all main routes throughout the duration of Festival Kreol.

The special arrangements will take effect on the official launching of Festival Kreol on 20th October and will go on until the 31st October. After the last buses leave the terminal at 8:30pm as per the normal schedule, the SPTC will determine whether to allocate additional buses to those routes.

There will be extra buses on Saturday the 28th October to ferry people from the districts to participate in the Laserenad activity set to start at 3pm in Victoria. The last bus service for that day will leave the bus terminal in Victoria at 8.30pm.

This yearís 'Dimans kreol bor lanmer' activity will be held at Beau Vallon on Sunday the 29th October and there will be additional north bound buses especially for that day. The last bus will leave Beau Vallon at 7pm to the bus terminal and other buses will depart from Victoria bus terminal at 8.30pm. Bus fares after 8 pm will cost 8 rupees.

MISS SEYCHELLES HAS LEFT FOR MISS WORLD PAGEANT

Miss Seychelles another World 2017, Hillary Joubert left Seychelles for China on the 19th October to take part Miss World Pageant.

Miss Joubertís preparations for the Miss World pageant began soon after she was crowned as Miss Seychelles on the 26th August. During an interview with the local press before her departure, she said that she feels ready for the challenge, even though she's had only 6 weeks to prepare.

The Miss World competition will last for about a month whereby the participants will part in different activities including visits, pre judging and the actual ceremony.

Miss World 2017 pageant will be held in Sanya, China.

PRESIDENT ASSENTS TO LEGISLATION

President Danny Faure signed into law on 18th October 2017 three items of legislation all of which had been sent to him on 17th October for assent.

The President assented to an amendment to the Prevention of Drug Abuse & Rehabilitation Agency Act, to provide for the Campaign for Awareness, Resilience and Education (CARE) to be represented on the Board of the Agency by its Chairperson, rather than at the level of Director.

President Faure also assented to an amendment to the Seychelles Media Commission Act to provide for the appointment of the Chairperson of the Commission to be made by the President upon the recommendation of the Constitutional Appointments Authority.

The third law assented to by President Faure was the repeal of the National Drug Enforcement Agency Act with effect from 1st November 2017.
